Personal Branding ~ Reinventing You

The latest catch phrases seem to be branding and reinventing. People keep asking, “What is Branding?” and “How do I reinvent myself?” Well dependent upon whom you ask you may get a fancy dressed up answer but since I posted this I guess I’ll give my version.

Branding = Labeling/Marketing. Reinvention = Change.

Think about back to when your mother may have said to you, “If you don’t do your homework your going to get labeled as lazy.” When you were attending junior or senior high school, you probably dressed and acted in accordance to how you wanted others to perceive you. You were marketing your image. In reality, you have been “branding” yourself since you were old enough to have attentive self-expression.

As for reinventing yourself, what does it mean to “reinvent” you? I guess we could look at a full-blown plastic surgery overhaul as a true meaning of reinventing yourself but I personally don’t know anyone who has done that. When your children went off to school and you went back to work, was that a reinvention or simply changing your lifestyle? When I got divorced and took charge and responsibility over my life, was that a reinvention or simply growing up?

Think about it. “Branding” and “Reinventing” ain’t new concepts, just fancy words for age-old life processes.

Stress And Finding A Balance

Everyone is affected by stress in one way or another. Managing stress, at times, can feel overwhelming but it is a matter of how we view and think about a trying situation, and then taking proactive actions.

You can hit the Net and find 1000’s of tips to combat stress. Exercise, eat well, take time for you, this list goes on. How about trying the internal instead of the external?

Getting to know who you truly are is number one on my list of combating stress. Be willing to take the time for introspection. I’m talking about real introspection, the type where you look at and acknowledge your faults, as well as your strengths. So what happens after you know all the pluses and minuses about you? You now have an arsenal to draw upon.
